Timeless Stained Glass Studio takes pride in sharing its love of the art of
glass with the young minds and imaginations of our local school children through
the auspices of the Artist-in-Education Program as an Artist-in-Residence at
Hammond Elementary School. This year, Mark Carson is working with 3rd- and
4th-graders on glass pins, a jewelry project.
In previous years, Mark has orchestrated a more permanent statement of glass art. His students created self-portraits in the form of glass tiles that were incorporated into musical panels that hung above the doors in the school entrance.*
The Artist-in-Residence Program is sponsored by the Howard County (Maryland) Arts Council and the Hammond Elementary PTA (Columbia, Maryland) as part of the Artist-in-Education Grant Program. The purpose of the Artist-in-Education Grant Program** is to:
* While the school entry way is being remodeled, the tile panels are in storage in the Timeless Stained Glass Studio warehouse. They will be rehung when the construction work has been completed. ** The program purpose is quoted from the "Artist-in-Education Guidelines FY 2003" booklet (http://www.hocoarts.org/pdf/AiE.pdf). | ||||||||||||||||||
